Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey is nice. It is quiet and on the water, but not too far from the nightlife.

The W in LA is nice too, if you want to be in the middle of things and do some people watching.

Cheaper options–The Standard, Mondrian, Hyatt West Hollywood

The Beverly Garland in North Hollywood. Nice place and only a mile from Universal Studios.

The Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica is close to 3rd Street promenade, the beach and has great food. Also close to westside nightlife. Poolside service cabanas etc.Tthey park hybrid cars for free. you dont have to drive out of town.
