I am 23 and I am getting ready for dental school interviews. :)

I am flying to arizona, penn, ny, florida and many more. basically all around the states. I need an advice on getting car rentals for affordable price. I went to all the websites and found where has the cheapest rates. However, I would suspect there can be hidden charges and many websites do not disclose age penalty. It totally sucks…

And about insurance, I have my own car insurance, do I still have to get the other car insured? Or is there any way I can put something on my insurance to have them cover the rented car?

It sucks to be 23!! Please help!

My suggestion is don’t rent a car. Many schools have representatives (other students usually) that volunteer to pick potentials up from the airport, show them around the city, and answer any questions they might have. I would contact the schools at which you plan to interview and see if they have anything like that. It will save you hundreds of dollars and tons of time and headache. Good luck

The above answer is a good suggestion. However, if you find out you have to rent a car then I would use Hotwire.

We have used Hotwire many times over the past several years and have gotten great rates and have not had any problems at all.

Check with your insurance company. Most insurance companies policies cover you when you are driving a rental car. Ours does – we never get the car rental insurance. It is a HUGE ripoff!!! It would even be cheaper to get a rider on your regular policy to cover the rentals rather than paying the exorbitant rates they charge.

Good luck and I hope you get into the school you want! My brother went to UNC in Chapel Hill Dental School and absolutely loved it! Now has a great practice in Asheville, NC.
