I’m a male in my late 20s. Scandinavian genes, so I’m quite pale! I want to get a tan before a vacation, so that I can spend time in the sun without getting a bad sunburn and ruining the trip.

So how long before the trip should I start tanning? How often should I go, and for how long each time? I really have no idea, so any information is helpful. Thanks!

Tanning is the worst thing you can do to yourself!
You should just live with whatever tan you get from being in the sun anyways, and not risk the skin cancer! White skin isn’t so bad!

I would start at LEAST 3 weeks before a vacation. it is imortant you build a base tan. The best types of beds for you would be a medium pressure bed.

Medium pressure beds contain a lower level of UVB rays (burning rays) and a higher level of UVA rays (bronzing rays). It has enough of the UVB to help you build some resistance to the buring rays from the sun.

HOwever still be sure to wear some SPF when outside… no tanning bed, no matter how tan you get can fully prevent buning because the sun still has much more powerful UVB rays than a tanning bed.

Also, be sure to get some tanning lotion when you go to the salon to keep your skin moisturized and to help maximize your results. (using a tanning lotion can increase your tan by up to 80%)

Also, shower before tanning, and exfloiate 2 times a week to whisk off dead skin cells which can build up and clog your pores, preventing you from tanning.

You’re smart to think about this! You need to build a base tan. I’d say 3 weeks before you leave would be prime time to build a tan. Dont get a spray tan because I’m assuming your trip involves the beach/swimming pools.

Exfoliate really well before your first session. Moisturize too but DONT do it right before because lots of lotions have oils that are harmful to the bed. Buy an indoor tanning lotion (sold at salons) Personally im crazy about Australian Gold Saint Sinner( I reccommend this because it has a unisex fragrance.) For the first week I say you should go 3 times to build a tan. You dont need to stay in the whole time. The first time i tannned in a bed it was a 10 min bed i stayed in for 7. The desk people should be aware this is your first time tanning (either ever or in a long time) and arrange the time for your preference. I dont think you should tan at full strength for the first 3 sessions.
Go 2-3 times a week after you start to get a tan.
Moisturize after you tan really well.

you should start at least 2 weeks before the vacation and do it about twice a week. this is a good idea because base tanning helps your skin build up a tolerance so you dont burn on your vacation! and always wear a low spf! have fun!

You will want to start 2-3 weeks before your vacation. You will be noticeably tan after just two weeks but make sure you are allowing at least 48 hours between sessions. The tanning booth you go to should tell you how many minutes to tan for but I wouldn’t go for any more than ten minutes my first time. I say this because I know someone who went tanning and they let her go in for 20 minutes her first time and she could hardly walk. Enjoi
