Understand where I’m coming from. The President is given free health care, free meals (I’m sure it’s anything he wants), free haircuts, free tax support, free investment information (like he really needs it!), free air fare, free dog grooming, free gardening and anything else at tax payers expense. Some one probably wipes his a** for free also! I’m just guessing on that one. If he gets everything for free why should he get a paycheck? I challenge anyone to show me where they have seen any President write a check for anything out of pocket. What deli or smoke shop has ever charged the President for anything other than a photo opportunity where he’s seen shaking someones hand? I’m just asking so don’t take this personally!!! Tell me what you think. I know that if I never had to pay for anything I wouldn’t/shouldn’t accept a check since it would be pointless anyway. I couldn’t spend my money when people won’t take my cash. Let me hear you bark! Woof! Woof! Woof!
Ok People! I never asked if or said he didn’t get a check. I asked if he (should) get a check? Remember, this is just a tongue in cheek question so don’t take it personal.
rickinnocal you and megan s understand what I’m talking about.
Some people took it personal.

You make a good point, but if your President ever came into my shop wanting something he’d find me inexplicably out of stock – on everything.

Why don’t you try and get elected president and we’ll see who cries first if you don’t get a paycheck! (IF YOU WIN, OF COURSE).

Presidents still have expenses which they have to pay for as a matter of life. They have credit card bills, mortgages, allowances for their children, and a great many other expenses. They run the most prosperous country in the world and they get paid much less than many corporate heads in this country. So, it is not that great.

When George Washington was elected president he declined to take a salary but instead asked that his expenses be paid…. after that it didn’t take long to pay them a salary instead.

He does get a paycheck. I think it’s about $300,000 per year. Then of course their is the corporate speaking circuit in retirement where they pay you $50,000 to speak during some lunch . . .

The job has good compensation but the competition is pretty disgusting.

The President is paid a salary. When I was 18 it was $250k so it might be $300k now.

Years and years ago seeing a video of Ronald Reagan going into a Hallmark to buy a birthday card for Nancy. What a farce – about 6 Secret Service guys and 20 photographers in this dinky little cardshop.

I remember thinking “Why doesn’t he just tell his secretary to buy his wife a birthday card – like every other guy in America does!”

They and their family have bills to pay just like everyone else. The compensation is so low compared to the average CEO that we actually aren’t getting as good a selection of candidates because the pay is TOO LOW.
